Top Accomplishments on behalf of West Bloomfield, Commerce, and the Lakes

  • Fought for and secured a record $5 million in state budget funding for infrastructure projects and community programs in West Bloomfield, Commerce Township, and Keego Harbor, including infrastructure projects and funding for Jewish Family Service and the Chaldean Cultural Center
  • Helped secure $20 million in state grants for the Detroit Jewish Federation community security program
  • Repealed Michigan’s egregious 1800s era “snap-back” abortion ban, which would have criminalized abortions in Michigan in the wake of Dobbs v. Jackson (HB 4006)
  • Took on rising gun violence by passing safe storage laws, red flag laws, and robust criminal background checks for all firearm purchases in the State of Michigan violence and protect public safety (SBs 79, 80, 81, and 82 and HBs 4138 and 4142 )
  • Closed the domestic violence loophole for gun ownership (SB 471, SB 528, and HB 4945)
  • Implemented Governor Whitmer’s MI Healthy Climate Plan to make Michigan a carbon-neutral economy by 2040 and create nearly 250,000 good-paying jobs in the process (SBs 271, 273, 502, 519)
  • Expanded Michigan’s Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act to enshrine equal civil rights protections for LGBTQ+ Michiganders against discrimination in employment, housing, and other venues (SB 4)
  • Protected our elections and voters from the growing threat of AI-generated disinformation campaigns (HB 5145)
  • Stand up for survivors of sexual violence by extending the statute of limitations to prosecute cases of criminal sexual conduct (HBs 4482, 4483, 4484, 4485, 4486, 4487)
  • Wrote and passed Michigan’s Institutional Desecration Act, criminalizing vandalism and destruction targeting religious and communal institutions and property, including houses of worship (HB 4476)
  • Finally repealed Republicans’ egregious retirement tax on seniors and restore the value of a career devoted to public service (HB 4001)
  • Ensured stronger compliance by the State of Michigan with federal insurance parity laws for mental and physical health (SB 27)
  • Advocated fiercely to save the historic, 100-year old Roosevelt School building in downtown Keego Harbor from unnecessary demolition (HB 5025)
  • Banned dangerous, harmful, pseudo-scientific practice of “conversion therapy” for minors in Michigan (HBs 4616 and 4617)
